Counseling Approach
I primarily use Child-Centered Play therapy with littles and Emotionally Focused Therapy with adolescents, adults and couples. But here is the vernacular: I help build self-confidence and expression in kids and I help parents repair and restore their relationship with their child.
With adults, I help them understand and know themselves in such a way that they figure out a way ahead. With couples, I help them repair (sometimes 10, 20, 30+ years of) hurt with each other -- not as venting sessions but to reach and love each other on deeper emotional levels that is in itself restorative.

Experience
Dean spent the first 20 years of his career in the banking and consulting industry so he understands first-hand the pressures and stresses adults face in the work world.
For the next 25 years, Dean immersed himself in both non-profit agencies as well as private practice settings. Dean worked as an intern and staff counselor at Denton County Friends of the Family with domestic violence victims and as a volunteer counselor at the Children’s Advocacy Center for Denton County with children who had been sexually abused.

Education
Dean graduated with his Master’s degree from the University of North Texas with a specialty in adults and couples and post-graduate work in Play Therapy under the nationally acclaimed professor Dr. Garry Landreth in the largest play therapy training program in the world. Dean also completed a Master of Theology in Educational Leadership from Dallas Theological Seminary and holds a bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M in Agricultural Economics.

Experience
Since 2009, Dean has also worked in the private practice setting affording experience with ADHD, anxiety, self-esteem, school problems, divorce, behavior problems, depression, and spectrum disorders.
Dean includes several adjunct services including parent consultation, school visits to advocate for children, and parent-child sessions to facilitate progress.
Dean’s work with clients comes full circle in his work with adults and couples helping them heal brokenness and move toward reconnecting with loved ones on deeper levels.
