I believe all people, adults and children alike reach their maximized potential when provided with a safe, therapeutic environment. My approach to counseling is guided by person-centered counseling. I focus on providing a therapeutic environment for client to share concerns and facilitate growth. Most importantly I seek to develop a strong therapeutic relationship by providing genuineness, unconditional positive regard, and empathy. Overall, my goal is helping clients become aware of their ability to grow and heal.
Education and Experience
With close to 10 years of experience of working with children, Charmaine brings a deep understanding of child development. Charmaine earned a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology from Arkansas State University, a Master of Science Degree in Counseling with a concentration in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Memphis, and she is currently working on her Doctorate in Counseling at the University of North Texas. UNT is one of the top-ranked counseling schools in this area and has the largest play therapy training program in the world.
Charmaine also has a significant amount of experience working with children who have experienced trauma. She has experience counseling children, adolescents and adults in a variety of settings: residential, private practice, and non-profit agencies. Furthermore, Charmaine has specialized training in administering psychological assessments for children. Charmaine has provided counseling services at the Child and Family Resource Clinic and the Counseling and Human Development Center for three years.
